USA : the Bluebird comeback

Bluebirds feel at home in Umicore nest boxes. After a rapid decline in the 1960’s, the bluebird population is on the way back. Thanks in part to Umicore plant staff in Arab, Alabama.

Once one of America’s most common song birds, this beautiful blue-feathered creature has a special sense of family life and a remarkably close relationship with man.

For three years, our Umicore colleagues in Arab have been successfully managing nest boxes on the 50-acre site and providing boxes and monitoring tips to the public. The next phase is to create a Bluebird Trail around the town and spread the good work to neighbouring communities.
