Destroyed women centre at the sea front in Thailand

On 26 December 2004, a seaquake shocked the world and claimed more than 250,000 victims. Thankfully, the disaster did not strike any of our colleagues.

Umicore donated € 50,000 to the International Red Cross immediately after the disaster.

In addition, it launched a solidarity campaign among all of its personnel in order to help the ravaged Thai region. And the result has been amazing! Thanks to their gifts of no less than € 38,674, we arrive - after that amount is matched euro per euro by Umicore - at a total of € 77,348.

Children for whom we build the new day care centre

In co-operation with the Thai local authorities Umicore identified two construction projects in the hard-hit Koh Lanta region (on the southeast part of the island of Phuket). Amongst others the reconstruction of a community centre for women devastated by the tsunami and the building of a day-care centre for 80 children is planified.

The management sincerely thanks all of their employees for their contributions.
