Charity with the money of Christmas gifts
Customers and suppliers of Italbras didn’t get Christmas gifts last December. Instead, the subsidiary of Umicore donated the money to the Tchéré Catholic Mission in Cameroon – to build an electric mill. Getting to the village of Tchéré is difficult: there’s little transport and roads are bad. Infant mortality is high: 50-60%. Primitive tools, poor soil and drought have meant meagre harvests. The staple food is millet and women have always laboriously ground it by hand to make flour. Not anymore, thanks to the electric mill built by the mission. A letter from the village says it all: “The satisfaction of the people here is great.” Italbras is very happy to have helped.
