USA: Umicore helps young entrepreneurs in Auburn Hills
In Auburn Hils, Michigan, USA, kids are learning skills to help them in their future careers, with the help of Umicore.
Junior Achievement (JA) is the world’s largest organisation dedicated to educating young people about business, economics and free enterprise. JA programmes are taught in schools by volunteers. Students learn how they can influence the world around them as individuals, workers and consumers.
Kids in Auburn Hills are benefiting from JA instruction thanks to a donation made by Umicore Autocat USA. Marcie Lemieux, Manager Support Services, recently visited the R. Grant Graham Elementary School and sat in on a class of eight-year-olds taught by volunteer Kendrick Kemp. Marcie watched as enthusiastic students raised their hands to answer questions.
When asked why Umicore decided to donate to Junior Achievement, Marcie responded, “Umicore chose Junior Achievement because we believe in supporting both our community and the workforce of the future.” Taking a break from his teaching, Kendrick added, “This is a win-win situation. Junior Achievement teaches children about their community, the economy and the world. And Umicore is assured that their generous donation is well spent.”
